Built in 1983, the KPI Sports Complex includes swimming pools, weightlifting and boxing halls, gymnastics and team sports facilities used by thousands of students.
Following another overnight attack, the building suffered significant damage including shattered windows, damaged communications and affected equipment.
Damage to the KPI Sports Complex
Following another overnight attack on Kyiv, the campus of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute suffered additional damage, including the university Sports Complex.
Built in 1983, the Sports Complex includes two swimming pools, weightlifting and aerobics halls, boxing and wrestling facilities, gymnastics spaces and sports courts used daily by students and university teams.
The blast wave shattered thousands of square meters of glass, damaged communications infrastructure and affected parts of the sports equipment and interior spaces.
The recovery effort is focused on restoring safe training conditions, repairing essential infrastructure and preserving student access to physical education and rehabilitation activities.
What Needs to Be Restored
Recovery of the Sports Complex requires coordinated work across the building envelope, communications, interior sports spaces and equipment needed for safe student use.
Glazing & Building Envelope
Replacement of shattered glass, damaged window systems and protective building elements affected by the blast wave.
Communications Infrastructure
Repair of damaged communications and technical systems required for the safe operation of the sports facility.
Interior Sports Spaces
Restoration of training halls, sports courts, service areas and interior spaces used for physical education and student activities.
Equipment & Safe Use
Assessment, repair and replacement of affected sports equipment to restore safe access for students and university teams.
